After graduation, Quirien Krijnen had started, in 1911, a technical bureau and studio 'Emulation', which organized lectures on decorative arts. Many students at Emulation were of ‘Indies’ descent. In 1912 Nellie Surie enrolled as a student.
Batik was one of the arts presented at Emulation. Krijnen developed his own technique: ‘batik on silk’.
... Once in Batavia, Quirien Krijnen started to work for the State Railway, whereas in 1917 Nellie opened an Emulation studio.
... The studio proved to be successful, and Quirien soon quit the Railways. Among its products, Emulation developed ‘ready for use batik on silk’ packets, which were sent to customers all over the world.

II.3    Johan Wilhelm SÖRY, ~ (Ev.) Hausberge 10 Jul 1765 (witn.: Unteroffizier Bauer), son of Johann Heinrich SÖRY (see also I.1) and Sophie Charlotte KÜTEMEYER
? = Johan or Jan SURIE, SUURIE, SURI, ZURI ?, liv. De Mijl.
At the baptism of Johan Wilhelm in 1765 his parents were given as Joh. Friedrich Söri and Sophie Charlotte Kütemeier. But when Jan Zuri remarried in 1815, he brought an act in which was declared that he was almost 60 years old, so born in 1755, that he was born in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland and that his parents were Friedrich Zuri and Anna, family name unknown. So maybe this Jan was not the Johan Wilhelm born in 1765, witness in 1791 (as Johannes Willem Sörie) at the christening of his brother Carel's child.
The confusing thing is that Henry George writes in his diary that his father (Carel's son) told him that one of the three brothers who went to Holland became a schoolmaster in Dordrecht.
