Helicopter set-up sheet

Introductionset-up sheet thumb

I have developed a setup sheet that allows you to fill out all of the most important parameters that you can setup on a helicopter.

The form is a Adobe Acrobat PDF file that you can download from my site once you have downloaded it you can fill in the information of your particular helicopter and when you are done you can save or print the set-up sheet.

I was used to using set-up sheets from the time is raced 1:8 scale nitro buggies. And found it to be a simple way to get a set-up history build up that lets you look back on previous set-ups that you used. A second benefit of these sheets is that you can very easily share your setup with other pilots. Also when you have a problem and you want to ask for help on a forum people usually want to know what your set-up as so they can help you better to find a solution, now you can attach your set-up file to your post and people can see what set-up you are using in a very easy way.

I only made the set-up sheet for a electric helicopter because that's what i fly and that's what i'm familiar with. A gas version will follow as soon as i have the proper information for it.

i have started a thread on RC-groups so you can comment and make suggestions about the set-up sheet. You can also download the blank sheet and the filled out example there.

If possible please download the set-up sheet from the thread because i have a limited download on my own website.

Step by step

In the top part of the form you can fill out general information. Pilot name, helicopter type/model, the filename of the data logger file (if you used one of course), your flight location and the date and time that the flight took place.

The second part (top section) lets you fill in information about the blades, flybar, tail, gyro and cyclic servo's. I have included a option for flybarless heads, if there are enough options for it i don't know since i don't own a FBL unit (yet).

The second part (bottom section) has the information about the battery, motor, ESC and the angels that were set-up mechanically on the head.

Then the third part, this give you the possibility to fill out your radio model/type and settings for the pitch curve, throttle curve and gain value for three different flight modes.

And finally the fourth part gives you the opportunity to ad a comment about the flight. To the right of the 'comment field' you can put the AUW and rate your setup by giving it a number of stars (from one to five).

Final word

The use of the sheet is free of charge and has no limitations other then that it may not be altered or used commercially unless i give the o.k. to use it. I expect that there will be things that i left out and that one of you would liked to have in the form, i will collect any remarks and decide based on those if i will ad or change something to the sheet(s).
